Conditions that need Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy When You Need Most

Our patients at West Loop Spine & Stability value us for the care they receive from our chiropractors and physical therapist. We make it easy for patients to take advantage of our full-service office by enabling them to combine chiropractic care with our massage therapy, acupuncture, or physical therapy. Patients are often referred to physical therapy to help manage and treat symptoms caused by injuries or other pathologies. Physical therapy is imperative to providing patients the treatment interventions they need to support joint and muscle healing and improve mobility to get patients back to doing what they love.

Physical Therapy for Treating Injuries

In moderation, the exercise we get from participating in sports strengthens our muscles, keeps our cardiovascular system in shape, and our nervous system active and efficient. However, excessive stress or improper use of ligaments or muscles can make you susceptible to various injuries.

Shin Splints

Shin splints are characterized by an aching or burning up and down the shin. Shin splints are a result of overworked muscles or tendons, as it often occurs when a runner or other athlete dials up the intensity of his or her training. Patients with shin splints may feel gradually worsening pain when they engage in any weight-bearing activity, even walking, but it fades away when they are inactive.

Stress Fractures

Stress fractures are commonly seen in athletes engaging in sports that involve constant running like basketball, soccer, or track. Stress fractures are often small cracks in a bone, frequently in the foot or ankle. They are caused by repetitive action and overuse and can occur when an athlete cross-trains in a new sport or changes the surface on which he or she trains, such as from dirt to asphalt or treadmill to track. Our physical therapist works with patients suffering from shin splints or stress fractures through several treatment sessions to modify exercise form, selectively strengthen weak muscles, and improve muscle firing sequences to reduce risk of re-injury.

Balance Problems

Although balance problems and falls often go hand in hand with aging, patients of any age can be affected. We often see patients suffering from balance problems caused by poor posture, uncontrolled diabetes, inner-ear issues, and infections involving the nerves in our head. When this happens, our chiropractors and physical therapist work together to realign and strengthen your spine for balance improvement, in addition to exercises to improve our balance responses when walking and sensation in our feet. Our physical therapist will provide a full evaluation to determine the root cause of your balance impairment and create a plan with each patient to ensure success.
